Why is Competition Considered beneficial in Personal Development? (7 Reasons Explained)

I’ll be explaining why competition is considered beneficial in personal development.

Being in a culture where everybody seems to get participation trophies left and right can feel depressing.

Especially if you grew up on the values of having a good work ethic and mental toughness.

Why is Competition Considered beneficial in Personal Development?

Competition’s needed in personal development because it’s motivating. It helps everybody push their limits and continually strive for excellence. PD encourages personal growth. You’ll be motivated to develop existing and new skills. From there it brings the opportunity to collaborate. It stimulates your creativity and ability to think critically.

Pushing Your limits

One thing I took away from sports is doing what you can to push your limits for success.

Even in reflection we’re taught that to get something you’ve never got takes doing what you haven’t done before.

One of my favorite and possibly most organic examples of this is when you got to the gym.

Depending on how serious you take it and experience could determine if you relate.

There’s a thing called a PR where you Max Out and it’s the definition of pushing your limits.

Striving for excellence

What’s the point in doing something if you’re not planning on being great at it?

Business is and can be a highly competitive environment.

The people that compete are the same ones that set the bar high when it comes to contributing towards the market.

Personal growth

Growth isn’t meant to be something that’s taken for granted.

Not everybody chooses to do it.

If you want to be competitive then you’re almost constantly continuing a journey of growth.

Developing skills

Skill building is maybe one of the greatest personal assets you could ever work to have.

What you bring to the table can make you both a sign of relief and even dangerous if need be.

Collaborative Skills

People that can’t work together don’t tend to do well when it comes to any pool or heat they’re placed in competitively.

Most of the time it takes teamwork to elevate your levels needed for a competitive edge.

Grow Yourself Creatively

It blows my mind how much people try to get creative with doing everything except work in life.

It’s one of the easiest to spot when somebody’s in an activity for the wrong reasons.

That’s actually why I wouldn’t ever recommend anybody go into businesses unless you really love it.

Problem Solving Skills

Problem solving is a dying trait that I hope to bring back immediately.

I took a critical thinking class in high school once and it really opened doors for me.

I’d like to say I always had that trait but I’ll let everybody else be the judge.

Final thoughts

Being competitive is good for everybody at the end of the day.

Here’s the reasons it benefits personal development again:

  • It pushes your limits
  • You’ll be motivated to strive for excellence
  • It brings growth
  • It’ll develop your skills
  • Encourages collaboration
  • Inspires creativity
  • It promotes problem-solving skills
