What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.
One question I hate to be asked is: where are you from?
Yes, where are you from? It’s a harmless question in nature and it shouldn’t bother anybody nearly as much as it would with me.
But I hate being asked that question because I feel I overexplain myself in many cases when it comes to that.
I’ll let someone know, yeah, I’m as far north as you can get from Chicago. That’s where I’m from.
People act like there’s only Chicago that exists and anything else is just unheard of.
I get it too. It’s something I had to go through mainly in college, but even in adulthood, when people ask about where am I from, and I say where that spot is, being Zion, they just want to know a lot more about it and tend to ask questions that don’t seem to really feel relevant.
But that’s how it is. Because it’s not as popular as, again, Chicago, that’s the landmark.
So that’s a spot that everybody just wants to only attach and gravitate to.
That’s the culture so they assume that it’s the exact same thing when reality, it’s pretty close.
Most people that live in the surrounding areas show just as much love and camaraderie with Chicago support when it comes to the sports teams, any iconic individuals that come from Chicago, everyone, they claim it, but the suburbs are still its own spots.
And it’s something that I hate being asked, and it’s nothing as a slight to anyone that does ask, but it’s more of a frustration with myself and feeling that I have to, go into great detail and have something super extravagant to share when I let someone know where I’m from.
