It’s because it allows you to keep your mind focused on God while at the same time avoiding the temptation of your desires. Self-control guides our decision making skills and it influences the other spiritual fruits that we choose to share with others when interacting among them. It should be seen as a fruit because it’s a sweet treat that you indulge in to get the long term prize. The funny thing is that we don’t really realize how much self control served us well until it’s done in reflection. It creates an effect that often doesn’t get appreciated until after your results are achieved.
