- Buying followers
- Fake client portfolios
- Social media
- Overusing ChatGPT to produce content
- Fraud bots
Why is buying Instagram followers a bad idea?
It opens your account to scams.
There’s too many red flags that you open yourself up to when considering to pay for more followers.
Instagram will penalize you, existing followers lose trust with you, inaccurate analytics, decreased engagement long term.
It’s a waste of money plain and simple.
You’ll continue to get security alerts, possibly bank alerts, after a while the growth is minimal to none.
There’s numerous cases where people would get random DMs from spam accounts.
It can be a headache when you get dozens upon hundreds of these messages.
Fake Clients: Scamming Credibility
One of the most popular scams that use false credibility is the $750 Cash App scam on YouTube.
This scam alone is a major reason why you’ll even see comments get hidden on YouTube if a video gets spammed with this promise.
Fake clients are a problem in digital marketing because it undermines the credibility of the marketer in question.
It’s simply a matter of honesty and transparency with your audience.
If your partnership is legitimate have proof that prove your claim true.
It can happen inadvertently where you misrepresent which can be the case with many affiliate marketers.
Focusing on building your portfolio can be one of the strongest moves you can make as an entrepreneur.

Because they’re so easy to fake it makes having authenticity a differentiator.
The Social media facade used by digital marketers
It goes back to the point made earlier about buying followers being a bad idea as a marketer.
The attraction of doing it comes from appearing more important than what you really are.
There’s organic ways of growing accounts but my recommendation to make social media work for your business is with experience first.
I suggest starting off as a Social Media Marketer.

They pay great, it allows you to build a portfolio of your work before you decide to start an agency of your own if you wish to do so.
How ChatGPT is used in fraud
Because ChatGPT is a program that simulates speech as natural as possible it can also be an effective tool for deception.
Email phishing scams are some of the most common because it’s a less instant method of communication.
It gets even more desperate by some scammers in making fake social media accounts that have responded purely made off ChatGPT.
There’s been tests done by Wired that shows how scam bots work in unison with the program to scam X members.
I could suggest you make technical adjustments to fix this but my response is simple in challenging for more engagement.
Talking with more people can fix some deception when it comes to conversation.
There’s some things you could fake but a real conversation isn’t one of them.
Ad fraud and its impact on Digital Marketing
Ad fraud damages a brand’s reputation greatly.
There’s too many mixed signals when it comes to getting accurate readings of accounts reached.
Protecting yourself from these scammy promotions should be a top priority if you want a reliable chain of operations.
Personally I don’t see this being a huge issue for anyone without a medium to small business startup.
There’s others that may disagree but I say this from experience.
I go through the trainings I’ve went through in Wealthy Affiliate and Ad campaigns is much further down the lesson plan.
Most of the 5-6 figure monthly earners never even mention using PPC methods.
That’s my take on the scenario.
Final thoughts
These are the 5 digital marketing scams you’ll want to avoid:
- Buying followers
- Fake client portfolios
- Social media
- Overusing ChatGPT to produce content
- Fraud bots
There’s a few exceptions when it comes to this list.
Social media for example in itself isn’t a scam but it can be used in a way that is and could hurt your business.
All I’m saying is to use your greater judgement.
