I’ll be discussing anime in full detail.
Anime is traditional Japanese animation that has a distinct style when you look at it.
I’m a fan of the art and mention it briefly in one of the sections I share about myself on my about me page.
There’s numerous anime available that can match your specific style.
It’s a really cool form of fantasy that’s gained just as much attention and popularity in the U.S. and it definitely caught on to me early.
I started off with the traditionally popular anime (also known as Shonen) that most beginners would usually start with.
I’ll get more into what those are exactly but this should be a fun one if you play video games or a fan of animation in general.
What is anime?
Teenagers to most young adults are the majority of the viewers when it comes to anime.
It can be pretty clear that you’re watching an anime when you get used to the animation style.
This form of art has been around for over 100 years.
Anime is a style of Japanese film and television that’s designed for a more mature audience although it has a style that’s still attractive to kids.
The emphasis is placed on the animation aspect of everything.
There’s a few points that make up anime as a whole:
- voice acting
- companies
- studios
- sub
- dub
Those are only a few to name but anime has a separation from the majority of cartoons.
The best way to put it is that all anime are cartoons but not all cartoons are anime.
History of anime
The earliest date of anime that was documented originated in 1912.
It came from the east and seemed to quickly make its way to the western region.
Its popularity worked out so well to the point where even American studios ended up making anime inspired cartoons as well.
One of my personal favorites is the boondocks.
Did you know the first anime ever made was only 4 minutes?
That’s a fun fact but it’s evolved to the point where we’ve gotten some of the most beautiful works of art that takes a large amount of labor to get completed.
Important terms in anime
There’s plenty of terms in anime that’s frequently used.
One of the most popular that I’m aware of is the word canon, however there’s other words as well:
• Otaku
• Harem
• Yuri
• Yaoi
Very often you’ll find where the shows will include.
The words mentioned above into the material.
One show that incorporates harem into it is Naruto, and they introduced that very early on in the series.
Another one of my favorite anime and manga type media is the shonen jump magazines.
They used to release them in the mid 2000s and would actually incorporate anime words that you would run across it when you’re following the series.
Pros and cons of anime
One of the best things that’s included in the anime is the motion adaptation of the manga.
Depending on the quality of the studio and artists involved with the project it could make a difference in how well the series is received.
There’s fight sequences that would probably be the biggest variable in what could make the anime great.
As for the cons it could most likely be when the anime skews away from the manga.
It really depends on how heavy into the story you really care for when it comes to comparing the 2.
Top anime
Some of the best anime to date has been released since the early 90s even going into today’s modern time.
A few of the titles it includes is:
• DragonBall (my highest performing post to date is why did Gogeta smile at Broly?)
• YuYu Hakusho
• Hunter x Hunter
• Naruto
• Death Note
These are some of the more popular titles, but at the same time they’re also some of my favorite as well.
If we’re being real, these are actually series that’s been around since the early 90s, and only one of them are still in production.
Hunter x Hunter had a reboot but that was about it as far as what I can think about.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Yu Yu Hakusho is the show about Yusuke Urameshi who wears an iconic green jumpsuit and dies but also gets a second chance at life with the exception of being what’s called a Spirit Detective.
If I were to pick a specific anime that you should start off with, it would definitely be death note.
I pick this one because it is a short story that only extends out to about 44 episodes, the characters are easy to follow, and it’s a detective story with fantasy incorporated.
There’s a few previous posts that I’ve made on the show that you can check out and I’ll link them below.
Yeah the show even goes on to continue with the manga.
It’s very unique in the sense that there’s multiple spinoffs seeing what the other perspective would be of the detectives involved, Because he have to consider it’s a cat and mouse story where both parties think they’re right.
What’s the difference between anime and manga?
The difference between anime and manga is traditionally the story that’s adapted to screen.
In the manga, it’s usually the story at its true essence, and depending on the anime that is translated from the manga it either will have the story completely accurate, or it might even be slightly off.
The first anime and manga that come to mind when you look at stories that veer off depending on which ever one you choose is Fullmetal alchemist, and the other is Yu, Yu hakusho.
Conclusion
So that’s it.
Anime is Japanese animation in a nutshell.
It has a cultured history that dates back in decades.
There’s great things that happen when certain shows are adapted to anime, but there’s also areas where it could lack as well.
A few of my favorite are the DragonBall series, Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter and Naruto.
Ironically those are all great animes to start as well if you’re lost.
They all have mangas as well and most are pretty close to their anime adaptations but it’s really how you prefer to follow.
