I’ll be answering if being a social media manager’s hard.

If you’re a social media user that has an account you check daily you’re as qualified for being a social media manager than anybody else.
I address it in further detail on my earlier post how much are you earning every month from WordPress?
It’s a case study but it breaks down what’s a general agreement on what you can expect to make every month with WordPress.
But I understand that I have an audience as well that prefers to use social media to start generating funds for their business.
Get Paid For What You Do Already
All I’m suggesting is if you’re doing this for yourself and make less than 4 figures a month doing it you’re simply wasting time.
Sure you can start off small by researching low hanging fruit questions like can you make money watching videos on YouTube.
But there’s deeper market than that.
This would be dealing with people who would pay you to post videos on their behalf!
We’re gonna look at if it’s hard to be a social media manager.
Is Being a Social Media Manager Hard
Being a social media manager is generally a simple task. There’s only a few points that should be considered when managing:
- Being skilled in general areas of social sites
- Asking yourself “what’s my motivation behind this?”
- Come to terms that it’ll take time to reach the goals you set
- Understanding data can be highly important
- Is the product worth marketing for
It’s pretty easy thinking if you ask me because the average person spends multiple hours consecutively surfing around on social media. To do the same things you do for yourself with another company is a great deal to get income started.
What is it like?
Social media management is the same as having the typical stay at home job to be honest, but with potential for better pay.
There’s a good expectation of being able to make at least an extra $3000 a month if you secure good business.
All of you that care about freedom to control your own hours and rate should strongly consider this as an option.
If you already have an account with any platform you’re already qualified to meet the basic requirements for average managers.
If you’re ready to start earning it’s going to take some extra effort from your end to secure business for yourself.
This is different from having a secured job, you’re only going to work for yourself when deciding to advertise social media skills.
The advantage you have with this option is being able to use tools that can assist you with making money.
Specific set of skills
The type of expectations you would have when being a social media manager are very reasonable when you consider the type of work you would be expected to do.

The skills that you would have to be expected to have could range from tasks as little or as big as:
- Creating an account
- Connecting all contact info to the account
- Answer a few DMs with a premade response
- Sharing a post on behalf of the company
As you can tell these are very basic jobs that you would do and I say that they’re skills because these same companies see that knowledge as valuable.
There’s business owners that feel they’re too tired to look up what you have to do in order to start an account or grow one that they started.

The Point of Negotation
That’s where you actually get wiggle room as far as being able to create a separate agreement on the company’s goals depending on your experience.
Maybe you know how to grow an account to over 2500 followers and that’s just what the business needs.
There’s a chance they would hire you to do what you agreed to at another discussed rate.
Motivation
The money sounds easy and good when you look at what social media managers make on their projects but another important point of emphasis is your motivation.
In order to be successful and make the income you desire then it’s going to have to be met with a drive to hit goals no matter what.

The motivation can come in many different ways but some can be your family, competitive motives, or just keeping a goal you set for yourself.
Motivation isn’t something I can teach you, it’s something that finds you.
How Hard Is It Get a Job As a Social Media Manager?
It’s actually pretty easy to find work as a social media manager.
If you secure business with the right companies you could be securing accounts that can last for the life of your career.
Everything depends on how you decide to approach the action of becoming a manager.
If you’re willing to spend the first few months of gaining experiences over profits you could set yourself up for an even greater opportunity.
It’s worth learning what it takes to run your own business by being a social media manager.
The best start is with a tool if you’re serious about being professional with your business.
I recommend Paying Social Media Jobs.
That’s only if you have goals of having your time on social media to become monetized.
The goal is to have better use of our time to do things that we really care about in life.
Find What Gets You Going
Maybe you’re money-driven and that’s okay but when you’re honest with yourself about what moves you, the better you will move.
You can find some after you’re rewarded and that can be monetary gains or fame that you’re seeking.

It’s safe to say at some point you want to make more money than what you’re making now so to take the time to learn makes a difference.
That tells me that motivation shouldn’t be an issue with you, rather it’s just going to take action over hesitation.
Time It Takes
The time it takes is something that a lot of people who starts something new seems to ask about.

They want to know how long it would take for them to start making money, how long does it take to do certain jobs, generally irrelevant questions.
I’ll tell why I say they’re irrelevant, because if you’re goal driven anyway why does it matter how long it takes for you to do something.
If what you’re trying to do is actually worth doing then the amount of time it’ll take to compete shouldn’t matter one way or the other.
Time Distracts When Making Money Online
It’s reasonable to be curious about some of these things from time to time but it only takes away from the work you could be putting towards your goal.
Time is only of 2 things that you’ll have to be willing to give up in order to reach your goals, the other’s money as well.
Can You Read Data?
This is actually less in the expectations of most managers because it’s usually handled with a director of some sort but it’s useful to have.
Knowing what works in social media gives you an advantage with sharing things that your audience cares to see or hear.

The data can come in numerous ways, hashtags, likes, shares, comments or anything that helps provide feedback on what you did.
There’s techniques and trainings available that show you how to leverage the data your given to work in your favor based on your goals.
Professional Accounts
There’s a reason why most of these sites have the option to create a business account with additional data analytics.
There’s a blog post by Bold Business Moves that share a few of the business scaling methods that can be used professionally on Pinterest.
It’s a direct recognition of the importance knowing these things can have on your success.
Belief In The Product
Let’s say the product’s social media for example.
If you have a love/hate relationship with social media in general then you’ll have a tough time being successful as a social media manager.

That should go without having to say but some people force situations that they’re uncomfortable with to begin with.
You have to know that you’re going to have a good time using these social sites as a job essentially.
And one factor that makes a difference in that experience is by knowing you’re using social media positively.
How To Use Social Media Positively
Positive use of social media comes from knowing why you’re using it in the first place.
When you understand why you’re spending time on socials it makes the time you spend on it that much more valuable.
One of the most difficult challenges that I find most marketers deal with is balancing personal social media use with their professional career.
We can scale the scenario to where if we look at things as where we’re using social media to make money then we can say our time is spent positively.
Final Thoughts
Hopefully this explains how being a social media manager isn’t really hard to do, all it really takes is basic understanding of socials to do.
These were the points again:
- Being skilled in general areas of social sites
- Asking yourself “what’s my motivation behind this?”
- Come to terms that it’ll take time to reach the goals you set
- Understanding data can be highly important
- Is the product worth marketing for
