What are CPR and RPM on a YouTube channel? (5 Talking Points)

Today I’d like to discuss what are CPR and RPM on a YouTube channel.

What are CPR and RPM on a YouTube channel?

CPR stands for cost per reach, and RPM is the revenue generated for every thousand impressions. As for YouTube it means the money you make for advertising your channel. There’s other metrics that’s measured too. CPM, CPC and CTR a few to name. Depending on your country your results will vary. Also, depending on your niche it can affect your CPM.

CPR, CTR, CPC and CPM Explained

Having checked Quora, I found:

This comment comes from a seasoned YouTube that runs multiple channels.

They explain CPR as having the total of what it cost (usually in Advertisement) to reach a new audience.

I’ve only spent about $200 in advertisements and honestly didn’t see much of a boost in traffic.

There’s still companies that believe in spending on advertisement but in today’s age there’s much more organic methods.

And RPM is just another method measuring your increase in views (for every thousand impressions).

It’s an effective method if you decide to stick with this option and want to scale your progress.

If you break it down right then you could apply RPM measurements to your other source of traffic (depending on what work’s done).

I’m at the point now where in use RPM measurements, but compliments of a different platform.

There’s plenty of profitable niches that can be explored when pursuing a YouTube career.

Drop shipping, Cryptocurrency, Home Repair and even Weight Loss.

The list goes on with topics that gets a YouTube Channel highly popular.

If we look at the affiliate marketing niche for example we’ll find that the average CPM rate is a little over $17 for every 1000 views.

Steps To Increase RPM

Here’s what you should do:

  • Turn on monetization for all videos
  • Enable ad content
  • Also allow mid presentation ads
  • Allow extras on your videos (paid wall, Super Chats, anything that requires a membership)

There’s also other things you can do to improve accuracy on your RPM goals. Uploading videos longer than 8 minutes, in fact that tweak alone can even improve CPR results as well.

Why Does RPM Matter On Youtube

RPM tell you how much you’re earning every 1,000 views.

These are the areas you can use to add more creative elements at the points there was a spike in activity for the next.

This was mentioned before on an earlier post called How Much Do You Earn a Month On WordPress?

WordPress has theirs set to $1 for every 1000 page views.

It’s only a gauge by the way, your earnings will reflect the results.

This information can be important when making investments in the right area of your business essentially.

RPM can range depending on how long you’ve been running your YouTube, but you could safely expect .45 – $1.60 per 1,000 views.

As of 2021 they shared earnings that ended at around $425 for every million views they earned on their videos uploaded.

It’s important that you focus on making videos that keeps the audiences attention for an extended amount of time.

The average TikTok that goes viral is usually under 30 seconds.

Short Form Content

It might seem contradicting to what you would expect with the rise of short form content but longer videos earn better.

In fact if you’re planning on earning anything worth working towards it’ll be a safe rule of thumb to make your minimum 3:30.

3 minutes and 30 seconds is more than enough time to sell a genuine story that explains why someone would want your product.

Short form seems to be a little more silly in comparison because it gives you an instant buzz of information without much buildup or anticipation for what’s going to be said.
