It’s AJ, and this is my commercialized blog site, where I can share my lifestyle interests and provide thoughtful insights on topics worth discussing.

I’ll be answering what are the 3 rules to survive a horror movie.

It’s the truth as explained by Dewey in the Scream franchise.

What are the 3 rules to survive a horror movie?

There are a few universal truths that make a good story, as well as how to survive in the horror genre, and they are:

  • Never trust your love interest
  • The killer has something to do with the past
  • The first victim has a circle of friends that includes the killer

Never trust your love interest

We’ve seen this mistake made in the Scream franchise, at the start of the very first movie.

Sydney was one of the first characters in a majorly successful horror franchise that this rule applied to.

If you wanna throw out what Alison experienced in Halloween Ends with Corey, then you can apply that scenario as well.

The killer has something to do with the past

We’ve seen more of this explored in the second coming of Chucky, specifically in Curse, and so on.

After the making of 5 movies relating to that specific franchise, Chucky’s past gets put further under spotlight in this film.

In that Case, Nica was able to use it to her advantage in order to escape Chucky’s attack in this particular film, but there’s more.

For the sake of keeping the least amount of spoilers in this post, I’ll just advise you to check out the related links to the topics.

The first victim has a circle of friends that includes the killer

There’s been less iconic movies that included this trope, but there’s plenty of stand-alone films that followed this theme.

Although Scooby-Doo is an animated kids show, it still has horror themes from a detective perspective.

And they follow this rule with its storytelling.

Early on they usually introduce a character that seems to be a friend to the gang, but ends up being the villain in the end.

It’s aligned with my claims, thanks to the movie web and their post on why Scooby Doo’s iconic.
