I wanted to talk a little bit about upgrading in general.
It’s something that’s been on my mind lately and I’m sure is the case with many other people that would like more out of their life.
The best way from my experience up to this point when it comes to upgrading is through gamifying your life.
This is a tactic that I would have loved to have learned much earlier in life, however, better late than never.
That’s not to say that’s what this situation is, but the way it works can be paralleled with any of your favorite Video games and even fantasy stories that have the relating themes.
I plan on revisiting a few of the lessons that I’ve got from a book that I ended up discovering all on my own.
It’s called Level Up Your Life.
- Adding XP Value
- Associate with tribes
- Determine your boss battles
- Spread out your areas of improvement
- Get in touch with your “alter ego”
These are my Favorite 5 lessons from that book that I believe everyone that follows me here will be able to add themselves into their own life.
I haven’t actively practiced them lately, except for maybe one lesson.
I still keep the fundamentals of what it teaches in my mind when I’m doing anything that I enjoy doing and sometimes that I don’t like as well.
Adding XP
Some actions in my daily life that generates me XP are rapping.
As cliche as it may sound, I set my coordinates towards improving in this area.
And because of that, that’s probably where we’re seeing the most improvement in my life personally.
That’s something that could change depending on whoever you are. I do different things that sometimes seem like they just past time too.
I don’t intend on it being that all the time either, but because I end up following areas of my life I actually care about (and I choose to lead an Adventurous life), what starts off as my XP generator ends up becoming irrelevant as the days go on.
And sometimes it gets tough to even pick up and be aware that what I’m doing today won’t be relevant tomorrow.
I measure whether I gain the experience from that XP with different methods.
I’ve had An account with The Nerd fitness program, and they have a website where you can literally track your XP!
I got creative myself and designed my own way of adding XP value too, through the assistance of Some of my favorite games or other forms of fantasy that I enjoy. That way it feels that much more real.
My proof that shows it works is through the things I acquire along the way.
Sometimes I get new clothes, accessories, jewelry, shoes or anything that you can see ends up being what I have is proof that my XP is growing.
I intentionally choose challenges that level me up because I’m a competitive person by nature.
At first it wasn’t really that. I was just doing something just to get me active and get going.
And that could be the route you take too. It’s just the case of different strokes for different folks.
And at this point, my stats that I’m trying to upgrade are my travels and money.
I’d say it’d be those 2 things because I want to be able to have funds to do a lot more things in my life, and they typically relate to whatever skills I’ve been focusing on crafting and designing at this point.
So ideally, I might have close to 5 or 7, 9 different things that I want to do with money, but as of this moment, traveling is one of my main focuses, and I really just have one spot in mind that I really want to travel to.
So, it can be different things for other people where they are just open and want to go different places.
But me personally, I have one specific spot I’m going to be going.
My XP value, though, those are just stats.
You’re going to find out the things that help you win at the game you create for yourself and from that, you ideally get better at it.
Associating With Tribes
Associating with tribes is another step I particularly like from the book because it gets me to the point where I feel I’m creating my support group or community at this point.
Going off my last example (with rapping), that’s one of the skills that I’ve been spending a good amount of time doing.
And with that I’m drawing and attracting more people that support me in my goal as a result.
It does great things for me because I feel I’ve got someone that’s backing me up along the way.
You don’t always need that though.
That’s just something I particularly appreciate about associating with the “rap tribe” members that we can call it.
There’s others I find myself associating with and finding support with though.
Sometimes it’s through film! I like talking about media movies and TV shows.
But it’s really for you, whatever it is you’re actively working on.
I can have several different things because I will work on my rapping, (specifically making music) and that draws other musicians towards me.
But when you say videos and media, I can also say that it attracts people that are videographers and directors, anyone else, because I also make my own videos as well too.
You can also check them out if you were to go to my YouTube, you’re going to find some of those.
But choosing my tribe actually isn’t as intentional as many probably would think it to be.
It proves itself to me that as long as I continue to produce and create, I’m going to be categorized and classified with a certain group anyway.
And with that, the world’s a big place. I keep expanding, sharing, and create, and I get different engagement and views from people that are interested in what I have to say or just share.
Those people find me.
I end up talking with them and having conversations.
And it happens in ways that I don’t plan on all the time!
But the traits and values that a tribe has to have for it to actually elevate my life is that I have to find the content and lessons, anything that they find that they deem as valuable, I end up having to do a audit on it.
I’ll reflect on a lot of what gets said, done and shared, and I’ll determine whether it was something that brought the right amount of value into my life.
As long as it’s something that ended up getting me through something.
There’s a lot of self-reflection that has to happen in order for you to truly appreciate what a tribe is doing for you, because in many cases, People don’t realize that a group is doing work on their behalf and actually helping them for the greater good.
That’s how a tribe helps me out.
Spread out your areas of improvement
Spreading out your areas of improvement is another useful Tactic.
What I find most interesting is that it Keeps things fresh. Specifically it adds variety.
Building off my recent example, it at one time felt underdeveloped and eventually worked up to video duretng.
As creating content is becomins-more of a career, it cells for more skills to be acquired along the way.
You won’t feel like you’re trying to improve in too many different areas if you actively make adjustments in your social circle.
You can’t have too many at once. You’re gonna have to monitor the amount of people that directly influences your life and do an audit on who gets a say so in your decision making process.
Get in touch with your “alter ego”
Your alter ego is the thing that Keeps you feeling alive and fresh. I’ve had one for as long as I could remember. And I’ll probably continue to do so for the rest of my life. In order to have one, you need fantasies present in your life.
The version of myself that I display currently isn’t what I showed growing up. And what’s cool is that I’m still not at the coolest version of myself. I like the way I am, but there’s a chip on my shoulder in a way, Where I’m constantly working to become one of the best versions of myself as possible.
The traits my “alter ego” has that my current self doesnt show to me at the time of making this is more reserved. They have everything my enthusiastic self has, but they appear more confident in a humbled way.
