How to create a wrestling character (Discussion)

Listen up carefully folks.

This gonna be straight gold if you’re familiar with physical acting that’s got a dash of reality tv in it.

We’re gonna be discussing something that could’ve been done sooner, but here we are finally getting to it.

I’m talking about wrestling and what it takes to make a highly marketable.

How to create a wrestling character

Wrestling characters are born through a variety of factors that play into the final product. In my experience, I find that it happens through practice. From there the wrestler experiences adversity and successes that’s dependent on the mindset of the athlete. Also is that they have to be coachable in some capacity and take advice from counsel outside of their existing knowledge.

Embracing the growth that comes with practice

“Practice makes perfect.”

That’s a saying that’s all too popular but I was told is incorrect from my first ever Spanish teacher Señor Bill (God Bless the dead).

He challenged my class to believe the saying “practice makes better.”

It makes all the sense of the world when you think of it. Practice isn’t everything, but it is a lot.

In most cases it prepares you for an event or competition that lasts for only a small part in comparison to the entire process.

There’s plenty of less pressures and such that goes into practicing.

That’s where you’re able to develop your tendencies, be a little more free, and come to grips with your style as a wrestler.

The lesson adversity teaches us

Adversity is yet another aspect of wrestling that is valued.

I personally believe that it’s slept on because of our instant gratification culture.

We tend to not care much about what it takes to get our final product. Just the results.

But let’s keep the focus on the athlete this time around.

Athletes that deal with this aspect of wrestling have their personalities molded and eventually exposed.

Adversity teaches us the life philosophy that we’re told eventually, “life is (X)% of what happens to us and (X)% of how we respond.”

The character becomes defined when we find out what happens next in the story of the athlete in question.

It becomes the thing that helps die-hard fans appreciate the wrestler that much more.

Having ‘success’ function as the product of said wrestler

Success can be tricky to define. Especially when discussing such a personal sport.

Think about PRs you could earn in Track or golfing a personal best at your toughest course.

It’s what you decide to be is an impressive stat.

In the case of wrestling, success in many ways could be seen as the unmovable trait that makes the wrestler who they are.

It might be tough to define off text alone, but a successful wrestler can be a success story that just happens to do the sport.

If you go out to face an opponent, you’re already noticed.

At some point your personality shines and your audience begins to notice your reactions through wins and losses.

Your success shows through that reaction. Are you someone that loses their cool?

Can you remain optimistic in trying situations?

These are questions you could ask yourself and learn more about if you’re at least on the path to success as the season continues.

Taking advice and counsel outside of your already learned knowledge

Being able to take counsel outside of your own knowledge is just a spoken trait that’s not necessarily a rule, but it does define character.

It’s like that saying that goes, “you’re the sum of the people you hang around.”

Whoever’s in the corner of the wrestler that can sway their attention gets producing credits to the character of the wrestler that’s loved.

It actually makes the process of building yourself exciting and less predictable.

You’re not sure what you’re becoming, but you’re positive that the outcome’s gonna be favorable.

And we’re talking about wrestling here.

This advice that you’re gonna be getting and applying will affect several areas of your life.

Maybe it’s nutrition, spirituality, strength, technique—or whatever!

You do this in hopes of improving your character, and the process all becomes creation at that point
