I’ll be explaining why Dragon Ball Fights are so long.
Why are Dragon Ball Fights so long?
Did you know Dragon Ball Fights are drug out for so long because of a simple reason?
It’s just because the anime needs to fill runtime while the manga is continued to be made.
It can be confusing for some that might need to understand the difference between canon and filler.
What are the best Dragon Ball Fights
- Goku vs Majin Vegeta
- Ultimate Gohan vs Super Buu
- Goku vs Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga
- Goku vs Perfect Cell
Those are 4 of my favorite DBZ fights.
There’s arguably way better fights in the Super series but this was point in time I was involved most heavy.
Goku vs Majin Vegeta

This was an epic fight in cementing a rivalry between Goku and Vegeta.
At this point we’re hip to Babidi and the magic he released to unleash the greatest threat yet as Majin Buu.
We learn that Babidi as the wizard is able to control minds and does so with Vegeta.
It’s very reminiscent of when Sasuke gets his Curse Seal from Orochimaru.
Why Manga and Anime are different
Manga is the comic book format of a show or series.
Specifically it’s the written story.
And anime is the cartoon counterpart to the same material.
There’s several differences between the two.
- Violence that’s depicted
- The way fights are captured
- Music
- Colors and related aesthetics
- Emotions and voices
One of my first Mangas that I would keep up with faithfully was Naruto.
It was easy to notice the differences and confirm these things to be true.
I’m not saying you shours start there but I do recommend you find a manga first before the anime.
If you want variety when it comes to the Manga then I recommend the Shonen Jump magazines.
Of course they’re discontinued but they held arguably some of the best stories of the genre.
Find one from a third party retailer and get one or look for a copy online.
That’s the furthest back I can reach in my memory bank for those experiences but make something of it.
Best of luck.
Can filler be Canon?
The only way filler can be considered canon is if it’s mentioned in later work.
There’s a stamp of approval that has to come directly from the author of the show to be considered official.
When something is considered filler it usually just means it’s not in the manga.
That’s actually why I recommend you start with a show’s manga before following the anime.
Sometimes the content gets referenced in the anime moving forward but usually it won’t be.
