Why Do We Write Stories? (5 reasons explained)

I’ll be explaining why we write stories.

You probably had the task of writing one at some point in school.

As we get involved with more stories and gain the confidence we eventually write ourselves.

It could be something as small as a poem or as large as the script to a movie.

We write stories with a purpose and we’re gonna dive more into it.

Here we go.

Why Do We Write Stories?

We write stories for these reasons mainly:

  • They help us remember and imagine
  • It helps us feel seen
  • We’re able to change the world
  • We write them to help escape from reality
  • We can tell truths through them

Help us remember and imagine

Stories come in different forms.

Their narratives keep us alive.

A good story has the power to bring people together.

If you’re intentional then you can also learn from them.

You contribute to them with existing and new info you’ll eventually acquire.

There’s studies that even confirm as we listen to stories our brainwaves get in sync with the teller.

It gets to a point where when stories gain traction they eventually create social impact.

The memories we have are already recorded in our minds and makes the next challenge turning it to a tangible piece of work.

Our emotions play a role in choosing which memories we’ll go back to.

If you apply it to a brand you care about growing you’ll find that compelling stories are what draw in and keep an audience.

What does it mean to be seen by someone?

Being seen is finally feeling recognized.

You’re accepted for who you are by another person.

It’s common to see a majority of the world feeling separated from other groups.

The main reason most want to be seen seems to be through influencing.

My issue’s with wanting that without focus on specific talents.

It’s a side of the internet that I’m happy’s with countering and encouraging people to monetize their time with a following.

We’re in a point of time where content creation is the new source of income without much cap.

What is constantly changing in the world?

Keeping writing in your daily habits creates social change.

Everybody adapts with the latest and greatest ways to find out what’s going on about things they care about.

I’ll feel irresponsible to not mention how AI is playing a big role in making it possible.

It’s changed everything from writing to video creation.

If you’re anything like me then you’ll have a good grasp on an idea but might need help organizing.

That’s where I’ve discussed before about The #1 AI tool for writing projects.

There’s plenty of ways to make money for your efforts in creative writing.

Escape reality

A well written story draws a reader to the point they can escape reality.

It’s a continually growing form of entertainment for the public.

It comes in many different ways that tell both old and new stories.

There’s a reason why gaming’s one of the most popular forms of entertainment worldwide. People want their forms of escape as interactive as it is entertaining.

There’s countless brands that present escapism as going to a nice place somewhere away from the noise and enjoying yourself.

Shouldn’t reality be something you create instead of escape though?

It could even be looked at the same way as doing what’s needed to beat an escape room.

If you can tell the story of how things work in a story you’ll be able to discover and reveal the details that’s most important.

What is the role of truth in storytelling?

It’s not an official rule but the truth should be mandatory.

There’s a belief that there’s 4 truths to storytelling:

  • Authenticity from the writer
  • Enlightens the audience
  • It exposes the truth of a current moment
  • There’s a mission behind every great story
