I’m be explaining what makes each sport that’s considered one of the oldest unique in their own way.
It stemmed from a post on why wrestling is the best sport.
But without any more tangents to go off of let’s get into what’s the oldest story besides wrestling.
What is the oldest sport besides wrestling?
Here’s my list of the oldest sports besides wrestling:
- Running
- Sumo Wrestling
- Javelin Throwing
- Polo
- Hockey
Running
What makes a runner?
They’re tenacious.
I became a runner when I was running for the benefits it would provide.
There’s key information that runners look to manipulate when they compete for the title of the greatest.
These pieces are:
- VO2 Max
- Lactate Threshold
- Running Economy which includes foot type and foot strike.
There’s even more that goes into running economy with stride length and muscle strength.
The list goes on.
Being able to go on runs while staying safe and remaining competitive are the aspects I believe make someone a good runner.
Sumo-Wrestling
What makes sumo wrestling unique?
Wrestlers are highly respected in the Japan Sumo Association.
Because they’re considered ambassadors the job they do contributes to spreading Japanese culture worldwide.
I wanna make this clear in saying that Sumo-Wrestling is not exclusively popular in Japan. It’s gained worldwide fame.
It’s a religious commitment.
The rules could be learned in under the time it would take for a full regulation freestyle match.
Javelin Throwing
Why is speed important in javelin throw?
Speed is used the same way it’s normally a benefit in other sports.
It provides momentum.
It’s classified as by a speed-strength event which only furthers the argument of it being a speed event.
In the guide of all things related to Javelin throwing scientifically speaking it determines that velocity is one of the single important aspects.
One area that’s measured heavily is the Optimal Javelin Flight.
Another study by the Centro Studi Lombardia dissects Javelin’s importance of speed in throwing events.

Polo
What are the reasons why Polo is a popular sport among the rich people in many countries?
Polo is known as a rich person’s sport in many countries because of what it costs to acquire and maintaining a stable of ponies.
It has a rich history with demanding skill and strategy.
It’s close to make the claim of it being a blend of hockey and golf. It even gained so much notoriety that it became the preferred sport of China’s billionaires.
It even gained notice of being a popular sport in Argentina.
There’s not an amazing story attached to how it got popular besides the horseback lifestyle is similar to what the average citizen would live.
Hockey
Why hockey is slowly dying in India?
It could be argued that once the introduction of artificial turf happened it led to a decline in interest.
Two players from different generations but still from India has the suspicion of it coming from a weakened domestic structure.
What that means is just finding the money to build more facilities and investing in more structures that’ll allow hockey.
Their situation is similar for most of other sports that don’t have their sport make the Olympics.
When there’s a lack of infrastructure it could leave an entire country out of the fun brought by another game.
