I’ll be explaining why most game to film movies do bad.
They’re fun to think about in theory but there’s a trend with them not doing well when they hit the big screen.
We’re gonna look into why that is.
Why are most game to film movies so bad?
Scorpion from Mortal Kombat might be the most popular game character to be adapted that was done right.
Games however are tough to capture correctly because of how interactive they are with the player’s experience when compared to film.
Most game to film adaptations are bad because Hollywood tries to strike a middle ground with serving existing fans well and earn new ones.
Filmmakers for these games don’t understand adaptations well most of the time.
Usually from not being true fans of the game.
What makes the Mortal Kombat movies exciting?
The Mortal Kombat movies are exciting because they lean into everything that makes the games and films fun.
Mortal Kombat films tell stories that don’t get in the way of the action.
And usually games with powerful storytelling won’t need a movie.
The movies are self-aware enough to acknowledge it’s a video game.
What is a really bad video game movie?
One game that really takes the cake for a bad video game movie is Resident Evil.
There’s more that come to mind when discussing bad video game movies such as 93’ Super Mario Bros and 94’ Street Fighter.
The thing they have in common is that they’re live-action adaptations and it’s important to add because animated titles make a difference.
An example is the 2023 Super Mario Bros. movie that made over a billion dollars in box offices.
Should fans be the ones that adapt games to movies?
Yeah they should and the fanatics are talking.
You can ask almost anybody what they think about most video game movies and it’s guaranteed that you’ll get mixed opinions at best.
Video game to Film movies are getting voiced to be less than good because they’re being made by randoms.
Whatever it is exactly it’s safe to say that most video game movies aren’t hitting the mark for fans.
It’s even led to discussions about if future productions should be tv-shows or movies instead.
Regardless of what ends up being the formula it should be agreed that there’s rules for game-to-film.
