What skills can be self taught?

There’s dozens of skills that could be self taught. But if I were to pick my 10 personal favorites with considering which were most useful and enjoyable TO ATTEMPT they would go:

• Cooking
• Language
• Graphic Design
• Music
• Personal finance
• Video editing
• Writing
• Marketing
• Car mechanics
• Learning

Cooking

I’ll be explaining why cooking is a skill that can be self taught.

Cooking is a craft that has more than one way to go about things.

Personally I think it’s something that anyone can learn to do if they simply try.

I’ve learned to cook for myself ever since I had the privilege of staying at home alone.

It’s arguably one of the most valuable skills you can learn because it’s needed to survive.

I think it could be self taught because it happened for me.

It started off by first learning to follow instructions with tv dinners and things alike.

And from there you’ll remember the steps by heart THEN it opens the doors for experimenting with different ingredients.

From there you’ll be confident in saying that you know how to cook.

Language

I’ll be explaining why the art of learning languages is a skill that could be self taught.

It’s not a secret in admitting that learning new languages is one of the easiest crafts to be self taught.

Because I’m a Com major I tend to dig a little deeper in terms of anything involving communication in general.

I can’t say I’ve taught myself a traditional speaking HOWEVER I have experienced something similar in video games.

There would be games that I knew nothing about but I had friends that would play.

With these games there would be lingo and other jargon that could only be understood amongst real players.

That’s actually where I felt I’ve had that experience in teaching myself a language.

There’s many that tend to think learning a foreign language is a form of self care and I would agree if asked.

Most that learns another country’s language ends up having to do research on their own and that could be argued to contribute towards them teaching themselves a new language.

Graphic Design

I’ll be explaining why graphic designing is a skill that could be self taught.

For starters it’s a skill that could be learned at your own pace and schedule.

I personally saw the crazy as something that was fun and lighthearted since it was an activity I started early in high school. I found it interesting to get another perspective on the experience that contrasted from my own.

That doesn’t mean that everyone’s gonna have the same experience if they choose to learn this skill. There’s actually plenty more success stories with self taught designers you could find that wouldn’t take much searching to do. One prerequisite that I thought I’d need was drawing. Slowly but surely I was finding out I didn’t need it.

Again that was my time spent learning. It might not have been the case with others that learned.

Music

I’ll be explaining why music is a skill that could be self taught.

There’s many that go very far when it comes to people that taught themself how to make music. I’ve had elders that were self taught when it comes to a couple instruments. Some taught themselves to play the harmonica. And another was the piano. I actually taught myself how to play a few recognizable songs from both the piano and violin.

As anyone else that ever taught someone else how to do something PRACTICE ends up becoming key towards learning anything to satisfaction. Being self taught in music can come about from learning notes or getting a natural feel for sound.

Personal Finance

I’ll be explaining why personal finance is a skill that could be self taught. I was actually eager to inform my readers about this because I have a special knowledge about this that goes back to when I was first learning the value of a dollar. I had funds I would put aside to spend freely called reckless-money.

It won’t be hard to find others that would stand aside being an advocate for having personal finance taught in school thanks to an article written by Forbes.

My experience proved to myself that financial habits can be self taught with effectiveness. Personally I feel it should be taught because there’s gonna be a variety of ways that people will make money and having that foundation of money management makes that skill universal. That makes having the knowledge essential because it leads to being self sufficient. A goal everybody wants for everyone.

Video editing

I’ll be explaining why video editing is a skill that could be self taught. The only thing that separates amateurs from the professionals is the software they get access to. It’s accessible to anybody and we’re in a point where all work can be showcased on the biggest platforms. We’re seeing social media stars based around video inspired content getting paid for their work.

I’ve been fortunate enough to get paid for creating videos and had some function as my marketing tool. I feel comfortable in saying I was self taught in this skill too although I’ve had basic courses that might’ve assisted with fundamentals. So if anybody was questioning if it’s possible to be self taught CONSIDER THIS as confirmation. It’s useful because of how popular video-based content is. Visuals are highly effective.

Writing

I’ll be explaining why writing is a skill that could be self taught. It’s most commonly believed that at the beginning stages is when writers discover their talent for writing. Depending on how specific we’re getting on the subject will have it make sense.

Generally speaking about writing a story or literally spelling out letters can make a difference in what’s being learned. But most forms of writing is self taught because after you learn the language and are able to physically spell words out THEN that’s where creativity creates originality.

Marketing

I’ll be explaining why marketing is a skill that could be self taught.

I’m starting things off by acknowledging that self taught marketing is incredibly valuable. I encourage this route because all lessons are discovered first hand. There’s literally not any way to take a loss or experience failure unless you quit.

One of the most useful tactics that can be learned in marketing is targeted-marketing because it’s simply zeroing in on your audience. That method could be done with or without any digital assistance which only adds to its usefulness.

Car Mechanics

I’ll be explaining why car mechanics in general is a skill that can be self taught.

As a man I personally felt that this type of skill is one that all men need but I’ll digress. I’ve had numerous father like figures that were pretty useful with cars. If there was something funny with the engine or installing components they knew and it only increased their value. And it saved money. I’m not a self taught mechanic by any means. If anything I probably broke more than a few shares worth of cars. But that’s not the point.

It’s useful to have this skill because of how important of a purchase buying cars is.

With such emotion tied into a vehicle it’ll only be right to do what you can to take care of each car you come across.

Right?

Learning

I’ll be explaining why learning is a skill that could be self taught.

Regardless on if you think self learning is a skill that you’re born with OR even developed there is a method to it.

There’s a book called Mastery by Robert Greene that proved the validity of my thoughts on learning.

It includes a few general principles that most hear at some point in their life and connects it with becoming a professional in your craft.

Learning at the end of the day is something you have to work at so the desire itself could be enhanced if chosen to.
