Why I use MBTI to represent my personality (my explanation)

I’ll be explaining why I use MBTI to represent my personality.

Why I use MBTI to represent my personality

I use MBTI to represent my personality because other people use it and it’s accurate.

A couple side benefits that help me appreciate this test is it helps me understand my behavior and my preferences for when I interact with others.

How popular are MBTI tests?

There’s about 2 million people that MBTI tests every year and I’m one of them.

It started in 1962 and was made relevant since.

It’s so popular they’re even used in roughly 89 out of 100 Fortune 100 companies.

They’re so popular that there’s over 2,000 knock offs of this particular test.

How accurate are MBTI tests?

Suresh Balasubramanian of USA Today says these test are “just as valid as on other personality assessment” so it works for me.

If we look at the company who makes the tests Myers-Briggs they even make the claim their tests are 90% accurate.

Now I wanna be fair in my report of this test.

And by doing that I’ll even share what the argument against it is.

The personality types are too close in nature to have much of a difference but I digress.

I mean if you wanna make that claim then you might as well get rid of horoscopes.

That’s not to say I think we should but when we’re comparing 16 possibilities to 12 let’s be fair in our reasoning is all I’m saying.

But if I’m being honest I’ll have to say there’s probably even specific personality types that are so boring and common to the point where they make the tests themselves look bad.

Oh well.

How does MBTI help you understand yourself?

MBTI helps you understand yourself because it interprets how you would act in certain situations.

That could include the way you prefer to interact with strangers, make new friends and retain friendships.

Above that it also helps you understand the way you receive information.

That’s crucial because that alone can make the difference in how fast you learn and even what you choose to.

Tack on the benefit of these MBTI tests help with understanding your approach to decision making.

An example is if you understand that you’re naturally an emotional person rather than logical then you might be less likely to make an important decision about money in the moment.

It’s probably my favorite perk to these tests because life is mainly about response to action.

If we learn to make better decisions naturally then life in totality becomes more enjoyable and the benefits we receive from it will prove that to be true.

And there’s a famous philosopher that suggests knowledge of self means understanding others as well.

Yeah that true and if you believe that too then we could agree that the reverse is true too.

The more you understand others – scratch that, even attempting helps you with yourself.

There’s too much investment that goes into trying to really understand someone else but just trying can make the difference in figuring out the type of life you want for yourself and loved ones.
