creative writing and music (the activities I get lost in)

I’ll be talking a little bit about creative writing and music in general.

creative writing and music

What activities do you lose yourself in?

The activities that I find myself getting lost in most often are when I’m writing creatively or making music.

They actually go hand-in-hand if we think about it.

There’s actions that get overlooked but are undeniably important when it comes to creating a good rap song:

  • Defining words
  • Crafting the feel
  • Becoming the type of person people wanna listen to

That’s without even getting into the technical aspects such as focusing on the sound and making records sound sonically pleasing.

Sounds with the purpose of inspiring creativity.

FAQs

How are music and writing connected?

Music and writing are connected in fascinating ways.

For example, music stimulates right brain activity which is mandatory for having good writing.

Writing is a specific combination of symbols to communicate a message and they more often than not represent sound and that totality creates music.

Music explores and expands the boundaries of what civilization considers to be art.

It’s actually pretty tough to miss when it comes to music from a subjective standpoint.

When you apply music to create better pieces of writing it can influence it plenty of positive ways because sound impacts rhythm.

What do music and writing have in common?

Music and writing have more in common than what most would expect.

These are the ones worth mentioning: rhythm, motif, theme and repetition.

Piggybacking off the previous question brings us back to the point on rhythm.

Music’s measured in beats and it dictates the rhythm.

It’s tied in with writing because it influences what type of writing session you’ll have.

Whether it’s fast paced, slow or somewhere in between can be influenced by the type of sounds are happening in the background if there is any.

Next is motif.

This is the formula that reveals what notes are being used when it comes to sound.

If we apply it to writing that parallels the letters which makes words that tell the stories being written.

Some would say that this is the structural mechanics when it comes to creating one or the other.

I’d be joining those very same people.

And now we move on to the theme aspect!

The theme is exactly how it’s suggested to be, patterns and things to expect when diving into each creative piece.

It’ll probably be easier to categorize them as the genres.

For music we can say that there’s typically a drum pattern that goes along with what we’ll use for this example let’s say Drill Music.

If we bring it to writing it could easily be applied to if we would be reading a Sherlock Holmes novel and can expect it to be a mystery novel.

The theme in that comparison is expecting to solve a story that leaves the readers trying to figure out something with the characters in the book.

Last of all is the repetition factor.

This part is something that we can expect to happen regardless of the genre or name of the piece created.

In music this could be applied to when a hook is created.

It’s supposed to be the catchiest part of the song that gets repeated because of how easy it is to remember.

When we add that to writing, the repetition could be words that continually pop up and help tell the story at hand.

Maybe you can remember it better as the words you would be able to dissect if the piece of literature has a glossary.

It usually includes the words that’s specific to the story and help push things forward.

Very commonly they’re important and have to be remembered in order to truly understand what’s going on.
