Marik turned evil because of a traumatic experience that he had during his childhood.

There’s also another situation that he went through with father becoming involved with a ruthless gang called the Tomb Keepers.

Why is Bakura evil?

It’s a safe rule of thumb to complete Bakura’s situation close to Yugi’s.

The same way they both share millennium items, they inhabit completely different people.

Yugi’s has the pharaoh known as the king of games in his puzzle but Bakura’s holds Marik.

Marik’s considered evil because of the plan that he has in mind, destroying the world and resurrecting a dark entity called Zorc Necrophades.

Why did Marik want the God cards?

Marik wanted the God cards because they were gonna be the thing to help carry out a plan to set his family free and gain the title of Pharoah.

This explains why he was determined to beat Yugi and obtain his Egyptian God cards in the series.

How did Bakura become Zorc?

Bakura became Zorc when a merge happened between Zorc and the Thief King, that actually explains how we get Yami Bakura.

Zorc’s seen as the manifestation of all the trauma Bakura experienced and also explains how Zorc earns the title of the Dark One.

Final Thoughts

Marik is an important addition to the Yu-Gi-Oh story and was a motivating factor in this post because of how well the Lava Golem card I wrote about earlier’s doing.

It’s part of a theme that gets introduced often in the Master Duel game.

There’s a lot of intrigue involved with this character especially since he’s similar to Yugi in many ways.
