Any open division tournaments. They usually have to be sanctioned by USA Wrestling or the AAU league. There can be tournaments you find that’ll offer competition in all styles; Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco. Most of the time these tournaments are ran by schedule in the form of a tour you could say in where the goal is to make a national or even world team. If you make either team then you’ll be a representative to compete internationally. Depending on your rank in the ladder might determine if you get the priority to step on the mat first.
This might be a situation you come across after a lengthy wrestling career and think you have to finally say bye to the sport.
If you feel lost with what to do after you exhausted your options as far as competing for a school’s program then this might be the post to help you.
I got a few questions relating to this topic that might give you a sense of direction:
What comes after a wrestling career
- Coaching
- Catch wrestling
- Jiu Jitsu
- MMA
Why is Coaching popular to do after wrestling?
Because you’ve put in so much time, effort, and money into the sport.
It’s only reasonable to wanna give back and help develop the generational talent that comes up.
Why would anybody do catch wrestling at the end of their career?
It’s because it’s a hybrid form of traditional wrestling so the transition is pretty easy to do.
Why do wrestlers try Jiu Jitsu?
Because it’s another form of grappling that has holds which carry over well from wrestling it’s easy to find wrestlers who try it.
Why can a wrestler transition to MMA pretty well?
Because most fights tend to end up on the ground one way or another wrestlers do well usually.
It’s one of the backgrounds that some of the best in the sport usually have.
How much weight can you cut in high school wrestling?
What should wrestlers eat when cutting weight?
- Lean proteins
- Whole grains
- Fruits
- Vegetables
That might seem pretty basic in comparison when you consider that it’s mostly everything on the food pyramid.
That’s the point though, there’s not a complicated formula that goes into losing weight.
I will however add the fact that high consumption of water can be the game changer in how much weight you lose.
How fit do you need to be to wrestle?
Final thoughts
We’re here because we still follow the sport in some way, shape or form.
Let’s revisit our options again:
- Find a USA Wrestling or AAU tournament with an open division
- Consider Catch Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu or MMA
- Coach a program
There’s things that go into competing again you should consider, such as getting into shape and picking the right diet.
It’s not tough to find a way to stay an active member in the wrestling community.
If you ask around with any other combat leagues they’ll be able to point you in even better directions.
That’s all there is to say about this on this post so stay tuned for more in the future!
