I’ll be answering why Sonic’s in Super Smash Bros.
Yes, my top 5 fighters in the hit game smash bros was added to the franchise since Melee.
Why is Sonic in Super Smash Bros?
Sonic’s in Super Smash Bros because he had to meet a couple demands before they added him:
- He had to come from a video game
- The game had to be published and released as a Nintendo title
Why do fighters have to come from a video game to be in smash bros?
So fighters have to come from a video game in order to make the smash roster as a demand by Masahiro Sakurai, the designer of the game.
Now you might ask “does that stop them from adding a character along the likes of (let’s say) Lightning McQueen?” for example.
And I would say that’s a valid question.
I’d also think that’s a wild imagination you got but at the very least an entertaining question.
Here’s another thing to consider.
Why Do Fighters have to be in a Nintendo title to be in smash?
I have a theory as to why that is. Most of their releases are based around their heavy hitters.
I’m mainly talking about Mario and maybe Link.
What I’m getting at is that they have a base around their original characters.
A big factor in it all are of the items that gets introduced in the game.
Consider the shells, mushrooms, stars, nintendogs, etc.
There’s a user on Reddit that shared a very good point that I feel should be addressed.
Smash is based around a Nintendo meta-verse.
The storyline and everything that gets added to the point of having a final boss battle with Crazy and Master Hand.
If we look at the cutscenes that tell a story in Brawl then you’ll see the main “villains” are the same ones in Mario, and even Kirby.
There’s more that could be added easily.
Immediately I thought of Dr. Eggman.
Sure there’s probably better options but it’s just a name to throw out.
If I had to compare the concept to another game with similar experiences I would say Kingdom Hearts.
