What are your favorite animals?

My favorite animals are the hunting breeds of dogs. Specifically I like:

  • Siberian Huskys
  • Beagles
  • Labrador Retrievers

They look cool and are built for the type of lifestyle that I could see myself being involved with. It’s tough to minimize my interest to such a condensed pool of furry friends but for the sake of the question I’ll keep it simple.

Hunting dogs

Pointers have one of the most seasoned histories when it comes to hunting dogs according to AKC.

That’s cool and all but let’s look at it through more of a general lens.

Dogs have been known to be alongside man ever since we started hunting.

In Africa the African Wild Hunting dog earn an impressive 80% success rate when it comes to pursuing their prey.

There’s a reason the dogs with these qualities are called bird dogs, because they’re the extended eyes for hunters.

Especially the ones that carry shotguns on expeditions.

Siberian Huskies are one of my favorite breeds because they’re a strong looking dog that’s built for any terrain.

Why I view Huskies as hunters

They’re more than just bright looking and highly furry canines, even though some may disagree about them being suitable for hunting they still have high prey drives.

They’re agile enough to hunt small animas such as birds, rabbits, and squirrels.

We can thank the Chuchki people for allowing them cultivate their true animalistic nature since they allow them to roam free during the summer.

Next on my list is the beagle.

Beagles

Similar to Huskies, Beagles are great assistant hunters for catching rabbits, gophers, and small game.

Their sense of smell and constant stamina makes them perfect for taking care of business when on an expedition.

Their use originated when hunters would take them for assistance in England.

And they also make for great house pets.

They’re the combination of 4 friendly dog breeds being the Talbot Hound, Harrier, Southern and Northern Hound.

It’s sad to think that this breed is constantly used in animal testing as well.

Anyways, let’s move on to Labrador Retrievers.

“Back to the lab”

Labs are good hunting dogs because they’re intelligent, trainable, has enough energy to keep up with the hunter and loves the work.

“Line-breeds” are the specific type that’s best at this activity.

It’s in their genetics to be hunters.

Coming from their incredibly thick skin to even their strong bones it’s clear that hunting is their true calling.

Milner labs are highly cooperative which if anyone who’s had to camp before or be involved with dangerous activity should understand is a needed quality.

They’re also great family pets with their friendly nature and gentleness.
