I’ll be answering how freestyle wrestling improves Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I’m a huge fan for wrestling and all related activities.
That includes combat sports such as MMA, Kickboxing, Karate, and anything else that you could think of.
There’s been plenty of athletes from other sports that gave credit to wrestling for some of the reasons they excelled in their sport.
I have a few posts on wrestling in general that I’m gonna be sure to link at some point in this post.
It’ll cover football, possibly gymnastics and other sports that go hand in hand with their training, but in the meanwhile let’s move on to the question at hand.
How does freestyle Wrestling improves BJJ
Freestyle wrestling improves BJJ by making them more effective in physical and technical aspects of the sport. First, wrestling makes you a better athlete when dealing with cardio, explosiveness and strength. With that comes takedown defense and the ability to scramble better.
Ultimately both sports can helps each other out in different ways.
Final thoughts
Wrestling in general can help BJJ the same way that it can be reversed.
There’s constantly wrestlers who transition to jiu jitsu and seem to make a nearly flawless crossover.
There’s rules in place that encourages wrestlers to protect their legs when it comes to takedowns that prove to be very useful when it comes to jiu jitsu.
I’ve personally helped train numerous people that came from Jiu Jitsu or were at least more interested in that over wrestling but still understood the benefit when it came to learning about it.
