I’ll be explaining why Gon loves his father so much.
He’s talks about his father being the reason he wants to become a hunter very early in the volume 1 manga.
It’s a topic that seems to come up often in the Hunter x Hunter community so I’m deciding to write about it myself.
Let’s get to the question.
What is the reason why Gon loves his father so much
I think it’s more of the case where Gon has love for his father more than actually loving him the same way at a traditional relationship would be set up to be. Mainly because he’s more attracted to powerful people and it’s shown constantly throughout the manga.
The argument about Ging being a bad father
You have to understand that it’s totally reasonable to feel for Gon and the relationship he has with his dad, or lack there of.
When Gon was dying in the hospital Ging didn’t seem to have any concern for visiting him.
My take on Ging’s parenting presence
That’s really the only argument that I could see being made for him being a bad father, but he’s shown signs of giving Gon clues on how to reach him if he needed to.
Gon’s attraction to the powerful
Gon (same as Goku) seems to fit the mold for a typical Shonen protagonist.
He seemed to always be attracted to the highly skilled and powerful people he came across in the manga.
It’s that way with Hisoka, Zushi, Wing, Kite, Biscuit, and Ging of course amongst some others I’m sure I’m forgetting but my point still stands.
Gon seemed to always see Ging as more of a powerful hunter with a solid reputation before a father.
Final thoughts
Gon doesn’t particularly hate anyone except for a few exceptions in the manga.
That inherently means he’s someone that has general good feelings and expectations for the people he comes across.
He only heard stories about his father and how good of a guy he was which helped shape his view of who he is.
