Why does Kakashi wear a mask? (Explained)

I’ll be explaining why does Kakashi wear a mask.

Kakashi’s mask is an iconic staple in the series that we can use to identify him as an original shinobi.

There’s few characters in the series who wear mask besides Anbu black ops really, but he’s definitely one of them.

Why does Kakashi wear a mask

Kakashi wore a mask because it felt consistent with maintaining a certain level of secrecy and mystery with becoming a ninja. Another reason that’s confirmed is because he never wanted anyone to catch him having a nosebleed. Masashi Kishimoto, the creator also takes pride in the characters he create and most likely wanted to keep the mask as a cool design.

Is Kakashi’s mask part of his identity

It’s very rare to catch Kakashi ever in the series without his mask.

There’s been plenty of speculation by fans trying to guess the main reason why he wears it.

The best guess that I came across so far was a theory that relates to Kakashi’s father.

Sakuma Hatake, his father was ostracized by the village after a failed mission and eventually committed suicide.

With that fact it’s believed that Kakashi wore a mask most of his life to avoid being tied to his father’s reputation.

Inherently it’s safe to say that in hiding who he was related to ended up creating an identity for himself.

Kakashi’s face reveal

In Naruto episode 101 there’s an entire story based around Team 7 trying to figure out what’s behind Kakashi’s mask.

It’s actually seen though in Episode 469 when an unfamiliar ninja by the name of Sukae who helps the team try and discover Kakashi’s real face.

It was unsuccessful for Naruto and the team however it is shown to the fans at some point.
