Calling all Shonen Anime fans

This is my first part of a direct homage paying of my favorite Shonen Jump anime.

I’m starting off with 4 from a secret list that only I have and I plan on sharing pieces of it with you, but here’s my first batch:

  • Yu Gi Oh GX
  • Hunter x Hunter
  • Inuyasha
  • Sonic X

Yu Gi Oh GX

I totally skipped the original Yu-Gi-Oh! but that’s okay because even though they might have the more iconic cards I believe GX has the better General Overall decks.

So, for those new, GX stands for generation next.

It’s a completely separate story from the first series telling the story of Jaden Yuki.

A few of the iconic cards that make up this generation are the Elemental Hero monsters.

If you play any of the games that includes these cards then chances are you have at least one deck that caters to this type.

Hunter x Hunter

This Shonen anime is arguably one of the best in the 90s and as it had a reboot in 2011 (as well as a rebirth with the manga) it should be easy to see why it made my list.

It had a great run when considering all of the different stories they were able to tell, but unfortunately had to end earlier than expected because of back pains that the author was experiencing while writing.

The show centered around a young Gon.

It actually included stories of people he meets along the way of being reunited with his dad.

The notable characters in the series (including groups):

• Gon

• Killua

• Kurapika

• Leorio

• Phantom Troupe

• Netero

• Mereum

Inuyasha

Inuyasha is an ongoing story that centers around the connected stories of Inuyasha, Sesshomeru, Kikyo and Kagome.

It starts off with Inuyasha being introduced as a feared demon who’s in pursuit of an item called the Sacred Jewel.

You can find this title on popular streaming sites such as Netflix.

It’s a good show that has some simple touches which I can appreciate, the main being that it’s supposedly set in feudal era Japan.

Unfortunately this is another show that was cut short due to the manga ending.

Sonic X

This is a show that I was pleasantly surprised about finding out was a Shonen anime.

I was someone who religiously bought the video games since owning a Sega Genesis all the way to Nintendo Switch.

This is an anime and you can tell by the designs of the characters.

It was adapted to be a running series that lasted over 3 seasons and has stories aligned with the canon comics as well.
