The black stereotypes in writing (9 shocking reveals)

I’ll be sharing what the black stereotypes in writing.

The black stereotypes in writing

Here’s my list of black stereotypes that we find in writing. Universally speaking the black race is usually painted as:

  • Evil
  • Angry
  • Poor
  • Sassy
  • Gang-driven
  • Submissive
  • Needing white people to save them
  • Uneducated
  • Likes a very predictable set of food, music and entertainment

It was pretty clear that this was the case with most forms of media throughout the ‘90s to the mid 2000s but it’s gotten better since then.

Black is evil

On BYU they suggest that one of the black stereotypes that’s enforced is that black is evil in some way, shape or form.

Black is angry

A WordPress website that speaks on the same topic is about how black people are usually portrayed as being angry most of the time.

Black is poor

According to GoRamblers.org they make the accusation of that blacks are also show. Most of the time as poor or impoverished in their stories.

Black is sassy

On Books & Such Literary Management they bring light to the fact that black is usually viewed as a side character that’s sassy (usually to an annoying level).

Black is gang driven

After checking out Quora there was a user who points out an interesting angle in saying that black people are usually in a gang of some sort that leads to more problems.

Black is submissive

After checking Writers Checking Writers they point out that black people usually struggle with having their voice heard and are only shadows in the background of an important moment.

Black needs white

San Jose State points out a few offensive stereotypes that are linked to black people and the main that stuck out to me was needing white people in order to get them out of tough situations.

Black is uneducated

An article from Midnight Breakfast also says a stereotype that’s pushed is the need to portray black folk as uneducated and less smart than their counterparts.

Black enjoys specific music, food and entertainment

Writing With Color states the obvious in pointing out that media who shares identities of black people show them as liking specific food, music and other entertainment when it comes to breaking down their personality.
