I’m happy to present the best guide on Dragon Ball Z (DBZ) and Super you’ll find anywhere.
DBZ is a fantasy Shonen Jump series that eventually connects to another sequel show in Dragon Ball Super.
DBZ was started in 1989 and continued on until it’s canon counterpart Dragon Ball Super was presented in 2015.
This post will be pinned somewhere easy to find on the site seeing as it’ll have plenty of information relating to both shows.
I was introduced to this show during the prime of Cartoon Network’s Toonami days.
Because I invested so much time, energy, money and any other valuable resource into these projects it felt natural to go ahead and do this.

What’s The Big Deal With DBZ
I’ve personally been a fan of the visuals, and really believe it helped make the show so good.
There’s plenty of other fans that would argue DBZ is one of the greatest anime of all time.
It’s been around for a while but I’ve noticed one of the biggest spikes of it’s popularity happen in 2019.
There’s plenty of clips on YouTube that you can watch which’ll capture some of the most unique things about the show, and it won’t take much searching to find.
I’m willing to argue that this show is better than Naruto easy, just cuz of the fandom it built which obviously brought more money to it’s name as well.
How Far Has DBZ Came
If we look at Dragon Ball Fandom then they take an approach to this question pretty well by throwing out all relating series to the show.
I’m have to be honest with you, I totally skipped Dragon Ball.
Yeah, there’s a completely original series that takes place even before DBZ but it’s my blog and I’m choosing to start here.
Other than that there’s also a plethora of tv movies and shorts related to DBZ (and Dragon Ball, but that’s for another post).
Dragon Ball Z has over 291 episodes with a span from 1986 to 1996.
The series of events (or sagas are pretty easy to follow until you get into the Cell Saga.
The reason for that’s because there’s 2 separate Cells and Trunks’ from different timelines that end up meeting.
If you can keep up with understanding this part of the series then the rest should be easier to follow.
DBZ as a whole goes as such:
- Gohan’s birth
- Radditz invades
- Nappa and Vegeta appear
- Planet Namek and Frieza saga
- Future Trunks
- Trunks is born
- Androids roll up
- Cell Games
- Buu Arc
That only includes the stories in DBZ and since Super is still an ongoing series it’ll make more sense to acknowledge the highlights.
A few to mention are:
- Beerus and Whis
- New Transformations
- Broly’s Made Canon
- The Fight With Moro
- Universal Tournament
I’ve chose to leave out GT and Super Heroes because they’re not canon.
If appreciate a timeline in its truest form then you’ll care about what actually happened in a series.
