Why Yusuke lost to Yomi (explained)

I’ll be explaining why Yusuke lost to Yomi.

Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t followed the entire manga.

Yomi is the high class opponent for Yusuke to close out the entire anime.

But for the question.

Why Yusuke lost to Yomi

It’s because Yomi was able to stay up for longer than Yusuke during their exchange. He had more energy.

Yusuke was out for a week after the results to find out the tournament was over by the time he woke up.

Yomi vs Yusuke

They was swapping hands in this fight.

It was on the short hand but ended with Yomi as the winner.

Yusuke wakes up in a hospital to find out he lost from exhaustion.

They seemed to be even with Yusuke having moments of brilliance that gets acknowledged.

It’s short lived though after Yusuke loses.

Yusuke has a realization in the fight

There’s been fans that specifically was interested in what Yusuke was discovering with his match against Yomi

He didn’t “leave Keiko behind”; the problem was that Yusuke didn’t have a place in the world, he never did. All through his life, he was an outcast. The only place he felt at home, felt alive, was on the battleground. But by the end, he still didn’t fit in anywhere; he was relieved of his job as Spirit Detective, never fit in at school, became too strong to fit in Living World, didn’t fit in Demon World, and didn’t fit in with himself. He loved Keiko, and wanted to be with her, but he didn’t even know who he was, and he couldn’t face her and be the man she deserves until he knew who he was. Was he Yusuke the Street-punk? Yusuke the Spirit Detective? Yusuke the Dark Tournament Champ? Yusuke the Demon (and later Demon King)? He realized that all his life he fought because he was angry at the world/s he didn’t fit in with, because he was so lost. But then, in the fight with Yomi, notices he isn’t angry anymore. It’s because he fit in a place that wasn’t a place: his family. His allies, his friends, his teacher, his love. They were where he fit in, they were the ones he fought for, and that’s what defined him just as much as his deeds. He was Yusuke. Their Yusuke. Their hero, their friend, their protector. The fight, in his mind, had their futures on the line due to Yomi’s plans, and he was ready to go back to Keiko (once got things taken care of and sorted in Demon World). However that last bit is left kind of unclear in the anime why it took him so long to get back since the barrier was taken down.

Yusuke was ready to return to Keiko.

After Yusuke realized he wasn’t fighting for anything it was over. He had nothing to prove further.

Yomi had a clear focus on his fight with Yusuke and it wasn’t the same for him.

You can call it holding back or whatever but that was where the fight was won.

Yusuke realizes that he never really left Keiko behind when in reality he just didn’t belong in that world.

He was the outcast in Living World.

Same with Demon World.

He was happiest on the battlefield.

Yusuke was realizing that whenever he fought in the past it was out of frustration from being lost.

But in fighting Yomi he wasn’t angry anymore.

He understood that the outcome of the fight affected their futures.

He was ready to get back to Keiko.

How strong of a fighter was Yomi?

He’s an S-Class.

If we go off the wiki for Yu Yu Hakusho they specifically say that Yomi is a very powerful and calculated fighter.

We’re talking about a demon that had over 1000 years of training.

And on top of that he had to hone in on his other senses from losing his eye sight.

There’s fans in the community that like to imagine the thought of a Raizen Yusuke being stronger than Yomi and that just wouldn’t be the case.

My thoughts

Yusuke lost to Yomi both by choice and he was just the better fighter at the time.

Yomi was a superior S Class demon with over a 1000 years of training that Yusuke wasn’t at just yet.

He was ready to move on from fighting at this point.

Even being naturally gifted.
