Is Merlion Park Free? (Answered)

I’ll be answering if Merlion Park is free.

The name sounded cool and I kind of did a travel post so I figured “why not” talk more about the area I said I would go to.

Today (July 29th) I made a response to a prompt about a place I would travel to if I had 2 plane tickets; guess where I chose.

It was Singapore.

I found this location after coming across someone else’s travel itinerary that included this location, so call it a word of mouth reference if you’d like.

It’s reasonable to see that someone may be interested in learning if this park’s free since it’s a major tourist attraction, but let’s move on to the nitty gritty.

Is Merlion Park Free

You can visit Merlion Park for free at any point of the day, a very rare deal.

It’s located in Singapore Asia and is a big attraction for sight seeing whenever you’re in the area.

It’s open all day so you can go whenever you like with plenty of different things to do.

Merlion Park Location

Merlion park is located in Singapore and is one of the premier attractions that the country has to offer.

Next to the Fullerton Hotel Singapore it hosts the iconic half lion-half fish symbol called Merlion.

Merlion Park off Fullerton Road has the statue that was made famous by a craftsman.

You have the option of trying out the restaurants in the area or play it safe with Starbucks.

Either way there’s plenty to do.

Merlion FAQs

Why is the Merlion so special?

The Merlion has a fish-like body called Temasek that’s meant to represent its deep culture in fishing.

Sang Nila Utama is the prince who’s legend is intended to be captured through the use of this icon.

He was the founder of the Kingdom of Singapura; this was in 1299.

Born in Indonesia he built his city in Temasek.

His family was started thanks to his wife Wan Sri Bini and together they birthed their child Sri Wikrama Wira.

He was a hunter at heart that went on expeditions with his men and discovered an animal he never seen before that closely resembled a lion.

After that experience it’s believed that this moment was how Singapore got its name.

It’s an interesting history that I believe contributes to the country’s strong culture.

The symbolism behind Asia’s history stretches all across the country, but this story seems especially unique.

I’m a fan of fusion in general so to hear the story behind a culture of fishing and hunting and how they combined the 2 in order to help establish a town is interesting to say the least.

Conclusion

You should have the clear answer by now, but we’ll go over it again.

It’s 100% free to visit Merlion Park.

The park’s open all day and night with plenty of things to do at its location.

One of the personal favorites of most travelers that get to visit is experiencing the river walk.

I’d probably spend my time taking pictures of myself looking at the different attractions.

This is good news for anyone that chooses to visit the park because it usually costs to go most places in Singapore.

But there you have it!
