I’ll be answering why Whis trains Goku and Vegeta.
The Angel that’s always with the God of Destruction Beerus.
Ever since Goku was found worthy enough to train with them we’ve gotten a new species to learn about.
I’ll be breaking down my thoughts on Whis and his decision to train our well known full-blooded Saiyans.
Why Whis trains Goku and Vegeta
Whis trains Goku and Vegeta in an effort to motivate Beerus.
It’s likely that he sees potential in them both.
Enough to the point where one could become the next God of Destruction for Universe 7.
It communicates that he sees them as special fighters.
And him spending time with both of them is acknowledging their power.
Why does Whis serve Beerus in Dragon Ball Super
It’s because he’s making sure that Beerus doesn’t do anything stupid.
If it’s not out of rage then it could even be something catastrophic by accident.
A God of Destruction can cause major damage as the name suggests.
Because Whis serves Beerus one would think he’s weaker but that’s not true.
Whis is an Angel and Angels are actually some of the strongest type of fighter in all of Dragon Ball.

Their role when paired with Gods of Destruction is simply for neutralizing any unintended damage that comes from them.
We get this hint of the job they perform when Whis reminds the Z-Warriors how he’s had to fix Beerus’s mistakes in the past.
The best example I can think of when Beerus accidentally destroyed the Sun and Whis reversed time to fix it.
What does the God of Destruction do?
A God of Destruction is a God that simply destroys life.
They’re tied in with the Supreme Kais since they symbolize the beginning and end of life.
As life grows on these planets that make up the universe time shows whether the planet should continue existing for whatever reason.
If it’s decided that the planet shouldn’t exist anymore then that’s when the God of Destruction comes in to extinguish it.
What if Goku and Vegeta had Broly’s potential?
If they had Broly’s potential then the early Dragon Ball stories wouldn’t have been a challenge.
Piccolo would’ve gotten killed.
Goku and Vegeta would’ve still had their personalities.
They would’ve clashed eventually but most likely would cancel each other out.
Frieza would’ve came into play and got killed eventually.
Everything else would’ve played out the same for the most part but with less tension between finding out what side would win.
FAQs

Whis isn’t allowed to fight because of a divine restriction placed upon his kind.
As an Angel they’re only allowed to follow the Grand Priest and facilitate the growth of the Gods.
