is tiktok dancing really dancing (answered)

I’ll be answering if TikTok dancing is really dancing.

TikTok: one of the most popular apps on the planet.

They take pride in being a company that allows creatives to truly express themselves fully.

It seems to come from a place where it’s seen as less of a form of dance if anything else.

Let’s figure it out and maybe persuade an opinion or two.

Here it goes.

is tiktok dancing really dancing

Yeah, it takes skill and requires practice to perform well as you would apply to any dance you can think of. There’s an argument that the dances are all the same to different songs because of the high expectations set in order to trend on the app.

what makes a dancer professional

Indeed says a dancer becomes a professional through having a set of skills and training that qualify them to dance a certain way.

Live about takes a more literal approach in explaining its movement used to tell a story and getting paid to do so.

Georgia Schrubbe of Linked In posed an interesting question and probably the most important in knowing why does it matter?

I agree with her suggestion of titles being less relevant as you gain more experience and proof of talent.

In today’s social media age it makes monetizing skills much easier than ever.

When you essentially open up the doors for anybody being able to create and make money for their creations it eliminates the needed for accolades (although they’re cool to have).

I personally think it’s great to have the opportunity to do this, but there probably could be more regulation with privacy too.

Is TikTok annoying?

I came across a Quora user who I’ll keep anonymous for privacy reasons but, they make the claim of how the app is negative to teens and everybody else it’s targeted for.

The mindset in particular was discussed and the way they see it poison the minds of its users to do anything to go viral.

There can be some extreme videos but that may be more of a minority compared to majority scenario.

Some of the most popular users that usually make those TikToks have only a short lived amount of fame in the long run.

That’s my 2 cents on that part, but there was another point made that was interesting:

That’s a tough question because you’re getting constant exposure on one of the most popular apps on the planet.

Although it sounds good at first, it just makes me thinks about a rule I learned a while back on how being unattainable at times makes reuniting sweeter.

Apply it to the music and it could have a quicker time limit on fans who would love the song if it were used less in TikTok promotions.

There is some monetization programs they provide so they compensate in some way making it somewhat profitable.

But what does that say for the long term game of a song you own that’s being spammed all through a shorter form app?

It made me ask myself the question “does overusing a song on a platform eventually kill it’s buzz?”

Final Thoughts

I personally have made dances for projects that I’ve mentioned briefly before on my about page.

Most were under the observation of far more qualified choreographers than myself.

The coordination of motion in a rhythmic manner can always be considered a dance in my book.

It’s important to note that the stigma attached to why TikTok dances (in particular) are seen at as less of a dance as anything else that would require classes is ridiculous.

As the platform itself grows more and possibly have even bigger names blow up the app in exposure it’ll come around.

Those are just my thoughts.

Again, my points as to why TikTok dances still count as skilled dancing are:

  • It takes skill and practice to master some of the movements required to do them
  • Depending on how far you go with it, you’ll eventually have your followers paying you through demand of seeing your dancing skills

It just adds a professional element to putting a label on what type of dancing is done on TikTok.

I believe there’s some stigma attached because it’s through social media, but that’s my two cents.
