Why are superheroes so important in society
Superheroes provide inspiration on who we are and what we could become in life. They show you what it means to protect others. In modern society they’re needed more than ever with all of the social challenges we’re presented with. For the creative minded, it’s also meant to be a healthy escape from reality.
Inspiration of Superheroes
Superheroes are a symbol of inspiration and hope, we can all agree, but I’d like to look more into it.
According to a user on Quora, they had this to say about the inspiration aspect of being a superhero.

I agree, with growth that happens in these superhero stories it allows it’s fans to experience what growth could be for them.
We do see a lot of these things with our DC heroes, as well as our favorite Marvel heroes as well.
There’s origin stories that make up each of the great’s legacies and they’re all driven by different motivations.
With such a wide range to pick from, it makes identifying and relating from a fan standpoint much easier.
I like their mentioning of how our taste in preference changes as we grow with the superheroes and develop morals of our own.
Our expectation for what we define as a hero changes too (allowing us to discover and appreciate new superheroes).
What they do as they grow, get more power, make tougher choices and who they become as a result.
Unique Superpowers
With superheroes that do inspiring things, fans also care about the way they protect others (to identify the type of hero they are).
We all can appreciate a hero (or sometimes even villain) that has an extremely useful power that protects anybody on their side.
There’s a variety of powers that superheroes can do:
- Super Strength
- Super Speed
- Time Manipulation
- Shapeshifting
- Healing
That’s only a few of many more, but these came to mind first.
There’s been a great amount of fans (I find) that are really interested in psychic based heroes.
We can look at heroes like Doctor Strange, Professor Xavier, or even Raven (DC Comics).
It’s easy to see how they can be popular among the masses, but the possibilities are limitless.
Superheroes In Modern Society
World peace, feeling safe in the streets, man-made or even natural disasters are only a few issues we deal with in society.
Creative Escape
For those who indulge, it would be fair to agree with thinking superhero creatives are amazing at providing escapes through storytelling.
