I came across the question “why are superhero comics so popular” and wanted to tackle the question myself.

Here’s my reasons:

Why are superhero comics so popular

Superhero comics are popular because of the authenticity of the story. Whatever the situation these heroes rose to the occasion and saved the day. The movies are a big attracting factor to increase comic sales as well. They have qualities about themselves that are relatable to so many.

They’re canon to the story

For many fans, there’s a desire to want to support all work that’s as close to the story as possible.

When a story is canon it officially belongs to the story that the director is telling.

I’ve mentioned it before, as it’s actually a big thing in the anime community.

But if you checked out one of my points in an earlier article, you’ll remember I mentioned that it extends past itself (whatever story you’re focusing on).

With the increase of more superhero movies being made, some of the biggest issues that I’ve noticed fans had with poorly performing films is accuracy.

Accuracy of the story in terms of the superhero that’s being shown on the big screen.

Some studios nail it and others miss the mark, but this was a point that I just felt compelled to make.

They Always Showed Up

One trait that’s common in the best superheroes are the fact that they always show up to save the day.

Every superhero that you can throw out has the reputation of consistently saving the day in whatever universe they’re in.

A couple of my personal favorite is Spider-Man and Flash.

These two have a high win ratio in their worlds.

Their wins are less important than what their reputation is when it comes to saving the day.

And that’s what makes them some of the most popular performing character in their universes.

Are They Only Popular In It’s Own Community?

There was a user who had a claim about comic sales possibly only being popular with comic collectors.

I agree with comic sales in general aren’t the most popular thing in the world, but do think they could be seeing boosts thanks to good movies.

With the success of advancements in terms of technology in film, it tells better stories and some of the best are from comics.

With attracting new fans to a new superhero, you also get new merchandise to fit their style.

Some after discovering a new superhero will commonly feel motivated to purchase more of their merchandise.

Yes, this includes, t-shirts, movies, games and even comic books.

The Heroes Are Relateable

One of the inspiring things about heroes are the fact that a lot have things about themself that the reader could see in themself.

You could find in an article I wrote earlier about what makes superheroes popular, but I mention this point.

The ability to relate is one of the most powerful things you can do in becoming likable.

The best superheroes do it well.

Final Thoughts

Superhero comics will always remain relevant as long as we have creatives still creating.

Because it extends as far as the imagination can think, it makes creating seem limitless.
