You’ve heard the name of a rapper with some use of the word lil in their name if you’re familiar with hip hop culture.

But have you ever asked yourself why that is?

Well we’re gonna attempt to understand why rappers use the word lil in their name.

Why do rappers use lil in their name?

One of the main reasons that rappers use lil in their name is thanks to people in their life that had influence on them. It could easily be applied as a literal reference. An example that could be studied in reference to my personal life is how I’m identifying with my Aunt on my mother’s side. Without her I’m not sure what my identity would be.

Influential Relationships: Helping Define One Person at a Time

It doesn’t matter where your loved ones are from.

You eventually get to meet them and form an opinion on who they are.

If you’re fortunate you interact with them early on in life and they help you discover who you really are.

They help define your identity. In many ways they expand your worldview off love alone.

You can always change the name you’re given —remember that.

I’ve gotten the opportunity to delve in self discovery relatively early in my professional career.

With that I’ve went through ‘name’ changes a few times.

I’m sure it’s cuz I’m constantly evolving.

But a large majority of that shifting is a reflection of the people I’ve built or destroyed relationships with.

They ranged from different ages and things alike.

A large majority of what I’m believing my name to be is a response to anyone that has something to say about my choice in career.

Obviously I have influence from blood relatives.

But I wanted to pay homage to the people that’s just friends as well.

I’m in a space where everybody’s friends but that means nothing roughly.

For example, you could be a shitty friend but I’ll acknowledge we were at some point.

Overall it becomes something that pays it forward with everybody that you’ve ever come across.

I find that your confidence grows as you meet new people that you enjoy and still feel confident in the name you’re born with as well as the one you picked too.

Final Thoughts

So I’m sure lil is a metaphor in itself as a rep for whatever influenced your life to a heightened level.
