Today we’ll be answering why was Hallie a killer in Scream 2.

I’ve been a fan of the Scream series and number 2 is a widely popular addition to the franchise.

We’re gonna look at Hallie who’s a co-star to this film.

Why was Hallie a killer in Scream 2?

The script initially had Hallie played by Elise Neal and Derek by Jerry O’Connell as the two killers.

But things didn’t go as planned once the script was leaked online.

Because of that setback it forced the writers to do a re-writing of the script.

It actually explains how they went with Mickey instead.

That way the director was able to keep the element of surprise when the film would be released.

What do movie studios do when scripts are leaked online?

What most movie studios do in an effort to respond effectively to anybody that leaks a script online is forensic watermarking.

This is when the original company will place a digital watermark that travels wherever the leaked script goes.

It makes tracking and prosecuting whoever first sent the link much easier.

It usually happens when someone that’s a part of the production takes work home with them or shares with friends and family.

What’s your technique for script rewrites?

Because I’ve had my own moments where I had to rewrite video scripts I thought it would be helpful to share some tips on the topic.

When a professional does it they’ll usually have a few copies of the final product.

There may be major cuts or even minor adjustments from the entire story.

It could be frustrating having to do so because it could lead to a much bigger story.

Or the piece you wanted was crucial to be added.

What I do when typically writing anything is having a few alternate scenarios play out.

So as much as I think the final play is perfect I try not to get overly invested and explore a few more perspectives.

This creates a contingency plan in effect that saves the stress from any potential leaks of intellectual property.

It’s been done with videos I’ve made and even music.

If you get comfortable enough to expand on a single idea and create multiple angles it makes each individual piece better I find.

What is your review of Scream 2 (1997 movie)?

It’s not as good as the first film but it’s still worth watching.

It’s always tough following up an original classic but Scream 2 does things that still keeps it fresh enough to watch as a follow-up.

Because of how self aware the franchise is it makes watching it entertaining.

It has references to other horror sequels as well in this film.

And continues the story of Sidney in a college setting this time.

Final Thoughts

If there’s anyone thinking that Hallie was the killer in scream 2 at any point in time is probably holding on to what could’ve been.

I found that fact that she would’ve been the first ghostface being interesting but at that point in time it probably just wasn’t best.

Personally it would’ve been cooler to see it happen somewhat later, maybe 3rd, 4th or even 5th movie but those are the facts.
