This was in the third act of the film when Gogeta became necessary to face a severely enraged Broly already.
Why Did Gogeta Smile At Broly?
He did that in realizing that there’s more good in Broly’s heart than there is evil.
Gogeta was at a point where he was intending on killing Broly because of what their fight alone was causing.
Broly was at a point where he wasn’t going to stop destroying things in his Berserk mode.
Why is Broly not evil?
Broly’s not evil because it’s mainly from misguidance by Paragus.
He showed his loyalty lasted as far as that shock collar could work on him.
Broly wasn’t the type that wanted confrontation but he was a true warrior.
It’s almost eerie how the Stardust Breaker was the only move to determine what type of fighter Broly really was.

Gogeta was trying to stop Broly from destroying the planet.
Broly’s rage alone was causing volcanoes to erupt and destroy icebergs.

It’s got fans concerned if we’re gonna see a Broly nearly as powerful as what was seen in the Broly Super Movie.

It’s 100% a fact that space and time “shattered” when Gogeta and Broly fell into this odd landscape.
