Should they lower the rims in the WNBA? (Open discussion)

Today I’ll be addressing if the rims should be lowered in the WNBA.

They make deals that are putting their players faces on products that make people think of the WNBA as a result.

Jerseys themselves even became a statement.

I understand that there might be an issue that lowering the rims could be looked at as lowering the expectations of women.

But that’s far from the truth!

The league would still have the same competitive expectation that it has today.

I will try my hardest to be respectful of anyone that feels passionate about the topic.

I’m a new person to the sport so I had to do a lot of research to make sure this was factual information.

But let’s get to the question!

Should they lower the rims in the WNBA?

The argument floating around is if the WNBA should lower the rims they compete on.

The only explanation I could see is if dunking is an element that makes basketball more interesting.

I personally found a few of the passes leading to easy 3s being a really impressive part of the game.

Is basketball more entertaining with dunks?

I’m interested in getting second opinions on if the game’s more entertaining with dunks.

There hasn’t been many more iconic than a few that happened in the 90s.

I’m not someone that’s incredibly locked in with Basketball regular season games as much but when it’s championship time I’ll watch.

I’ve actually got more of my game defining moments through a few sports cards I would collect.

There’s just not many career defining moments happening through dunks and I’m willing to say there’s better parts to the game.

It’s leaning to strategic movement and sinking long range shots.

Why ball movement is better

I’m someone that’s grown to appreciate good shots off superior ball movement but watching a few of the women’s game at a high level really confirms it.

You’ll see some of the most unique passes that lead to wild threes getting drained most of the time.

There’s been some incredible games shown in the NCAA level and pro that shows what leads to higher scoring matchups.

This is what I believe leads to more ticket sales and excitement for the game.

It creates variety for the most part and opens up the shooter for the shot.

The skill level to be competitive in these games seem undeniable.

Most of the time it takes some handles of your own before you can get it off to the next handler.

Final Thoughts

I think the rims could stay the same until it’s proven that dunking will make the difference in drawing interest to the game.

If anything the ball movement that leads to a drained shot would be a more considerable point of emphasis.

Maybe that’s a challenge to coaches looking to build a program around good fundamentals.

If so it’s not intentional but our most important players in recent times have had the best handles we’ve seen in a lifetime.

There’s a good chance I’m just getting on my soapbox with a message on what would make the WNBA more interesting.

It’s hard to hold a candle next to someone with the best handles.

That’s my type of thumb generally.
